PS Polystyren

Amorphous plastic, unmodified, it is glass-clear, hard, and brittle.

Often – except for disposable items – it is used modified with butadiene for so-called impact-resistant polystyrene. Impact-resistant polystyrene / SB, MIPS, HIPS) is opaque.

SB comes in several degrees of toughness varying with butadiene content.

SB has certain similarities with ABS. But does not have such fine surfaces, for example. On the other hand, SB is more affordable.

Typically used for disposable cutlery, furniture legs, handles, toys, etc.

Density approx. 1.05 g/cm³ (depends on the butadiene content).

Can be glued.

Maximum operating temperature, unloaded approx. 80°C
